There are millions of fishing tutorial videos on YouTube. Most of them offer nothing new or are poorly articulated. Recently one of my favorite customers, Michelle, sent me this link after spending a couple of days fishing the Salmonfly hatch this year on the Upper Madison.
To be successful fishing dry flies, especially the Salmonfly hatch where quick recognition of targets and casting accuracy are very important, the rower and anglers need to be in sync and this video captures literally everything I try to teach on a daily basis as a dry fly first guide on the Madison. It offers so much information distilled down in an efficient way, for both anglers and rowers. He does an amazing job using the right words to describe the technique. For anyone coming to fish with me, we'll almost always be looking for dry fly opportunities first, and this video is a must watch. The difference in outcomes for anglers using this advice versus those who don't is significant. This is one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen. In fact, I'm going to use some of the same words he does from now on. Michelle sent this video to me with the following message: "I wanna come back and do a better job!" This is Michelle with a dandy Salmonfly eating brown trout this June. I think you're doing alright with those dry flies!
